Wales-specific Covid inquiry a must

- with Ynys Môn AM Rhun ap Iorwerth

ER bod y Senedd nawr ar egwyl dros yr haf, mae hi dal yn gyfnod prysur i mi fel eich aelod o’r Senedd dros Ynys Môn.

Roeddwn yn siarad ar BBC Radio Wales yn ddiweddar ynglŷn â chael ymchwiliad Covid penodol i Gymru er mwyn i ni allu dysgu gwersi o ymateb llywodraeth Cymru i’r pandemig. Pwysleisiais, ein bod wedi llwyddo i ddatganoli pwerau i Gymru, ond ni allwn wedyn ddewis i beidio datganoli cyfrifoldeb. Mae’n bwysig iawn fod yna ymchwiliad penodol i Gymru.

Yr wythnos hon, rwyf wedi bod draw yng Nghae Sioe Môn i ymweld â digwyddiad Sioe Bach Môn. Yn anffodus, o ganlyniad i’r pandemig, nid oedd modd cynnal y sioe unwaith eto eleni, ond roedd y trefnwyr yn awyddus i gynnal Sioe Bach Môn yn ei le.

Roedd y digwyddiad yn cynnwys dosbarthiadau cyfyngedig gan gynnwys cystadlaethau yn yr Adran Geffylau a’r Adran Dofednod, ynghyd â Sioe Gŵn ar Awst y 10fed, ac yna y Ceffylau Neidio ar yr 11eg o Awst.

Roedd y digwyddiad gwych

yma yn rhoi gobaith i ni at y flwyddyn nesaf, a gobeithio y cawn weld y sioe fel arfer yn 2022.

Yn ddiweddar, mynychais gyfarfod blynyddol mudiad Ffermwyr Ifanc Môn ym Mona. Roedd yn ddigwyddiad ychydig yn wahanol eleni yn sgil y pandemig. Gan amlaf yn cael ei gynnal yn siambr y cyngor yn Llangefni, eleni yn cael ei gynnal yn y sied wartheg ar safle’r sioe, gyda chyflwynydd Ffermio S4C yn siaradwr gwadd. Fe wnaeth aelodau o bob clwb Ffermwyr Ifanc Môn siarad am eu profiadau o’r flwyddyn ddiwethaf gan edrych ymlaen at ailddechrau ym mis Medi. Mae hwn yn fudiad mor bwysig, ac rwy’n dymuno’n dda i bawb sydd ynghlwm â’r mudiad, a phawb a gafodd eu hethol i’r pwyllgor sir ar gyfer y flwyddyn nesaf.

Yn olaf, gair sydyn am y sefyllfa Covid-19 ddiweddaraf. Rydym bellach ar lefel rhybudd sero. Prin yw’r cyfyngiadau sydd ar ôl bellach. Ond nid yw hyn yn golygu fod y feirws wedi mynd. Mae angen i ni barhau i fod yn wyliadwrus, a dilyn y canllawiau sydd mewn grym, gyda’r rheolau – yn cynnwys ar yr angen i barhau i wisgo masgiau - yn wahanol i wledydd eraill y DU. Rwy’n annog unrhyw un sydd ddim eto wedi cael y brechiad i wneud hynny, gan mai dyna’r prif amddiffyniad yn erbyn salwch difrifol.

Cadwch yn saff a mwynhewch yr haf.

Ynys Môn

ALTHOUGH the Senedd is now on a break for the summer, it is still a busy time for me as your member of the Senedd for Ynys Môn.

I was speaking on BBC Radio Wales recently about having a specific Covid inquiry in Wales so that we can learn lessons about the government’s response to the pandemic.

I stressed that although we have been able to devolve powers to Wales, we cannot choose not to devolve responsibility.

It is very important that there is a Wales specific inquiry.

This week, I’ve been over at the Anglesey Showground to visit the Anglesey Show.

Unfortunately, as a result of the pandemic, it was not possible to hold the show again this year, but the organisers were keen to hold ‘Sioe Bach Môn’ in its place.

The event featured limited classes including competitions in the Horse and Poultry Section, plus a Dog Show on August 10th, followed by the Horse Jumping today, August 11th.

This wonderful event gave us hope for next year, and we hope to see the show return as usual in 2022.

I recently attended the annual general meeting of the Anglesey Young Farmers organisation in Mona.

It was a slightly different event this year in the wake of the pandemic.

Usually held in the council chamber in Llangefni, this year being held in the cattle shed on the show site, with S4C’s Ffermio presenter as guest speaker. Members of all Anglesey Young Farmers clubs talked about their experiences from last year and looked forward to resuming in September.

This is such an important organisation, and I wish everyone involved, and everyone who was elected to the committee for next year, the best of luck.

Finally, a quick word on the latest with Covid-19.

We are now at alert level zero.

There are few restrictions remaining.

But this does not mean that the virus is gone.

We need to remain vigilant and to follow the guidelines in force - including the need to continue to wear masks unlike other UK countries.

I urge anyone who has not yet been vaccinated to do so, as that is the main defence against serious illness.

Stay safe and enjoy the summer.
