Food Warehouse could come to retail park

-

A FOOD Warehouse store could open on a North Wales retail park under plans by the site owners.

Bosses at Menai Retail Park are planning changes for the shopping location in Bangor.

They want to move the Food Warehouse – part of the Iceland Group – into unit B, occupied by Carpetright.

In a statement to Gwynedd council planning agent Alyn Nicholls says Carpetright has served notice to vacate.

Under plans this unit would be extended and Food Warehouse moved in.

This would then require the need for additional comparison retail floorspace.

Site owner Menret Ltd wants to therefore retain an existing planning permission for a new 5,000sq ft unit on the park.

A planning statement from Alyn Nicholls said: “The council are aware through the pre-application enquiry process that applications are to be submitted to facilitate the use of Unit B at Menai Retail Park for food retailing.

“The occupier would be Food Warehouse, part of the Iceland Group. The unit has been occupied by Carpetright, a comparison goods retailer. The existing unit is 929sq m gross (10,000sq ft). If the applications for Unit B are approved, there would be a reduction in comparison retail floorspace of 929sq m.

“The size of the unit the subject of this application is 464sq m gross (5,000sq ft).”

It adds: “Overall, there is a clear quantitative and qualitative need to support the extension of time for the implementation of the permission for a unit of 464sq m at Menai Retail Park.”
