Coronavirus warning as ‘alarming’ surge brings island’s worst month for cases:
LEADERS’WARNING AFTER RECORD MONTH FOR POSITIVE TESTS ON ANGLESEY
ANGLESEY Council has issued an appeal following a substantial increase in positive Covid-19 cases on the island over the past month.
Coronavirus rates soared on Anglesey during August, with 585 positive cases recorded on the island over that period – the highest number of cases in a single month since the pandemic began in March 2020.
According to the council, an increasing number of positive cases have been linked to social gatherings during this period.
Anglesey residents who have recently attended these type of social gatherings are being urged to take a rapid lateral flow test, even if they are fully vaccinated and are not displaying symptoms.
Council leader Llinos Medi (pictured) said: “Covid-19 cases are increasing at an alarming rate on the island. It is my duty to reiterate that everyone must take the necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their community.”
She added: “I fully appreciate that the last 18 months have been incredibly tough and challenging for us all. We can’t let all this hard work go to waste. We must continue to be as vigilant as possible – wear a face mask, keep a safe distance from others, wash your hands regularly and allow fresh air in.”
Anglesey Chief Executive Annwen Morgan said: “We all have a duty of care and must play a vital role when it comes to keeping our friends, family and loved ones safe.
“None of us want to see a situation where tough restrictions are imposed again.
“Therefore, I am urging everyone to play their part and to act responsibly when it comes to tackling coronavirus.”
She added: “There are steps we can all take to protect ourselves and communities.
“These include: Self-isolate and book a PCR Covid-19 test immediately if you are displaying symptoms, get vaccinated, follow the core Covid-19 rules; wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands and allow fresh air in.
“Many of you have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic.
“I ask you again – please do what’s right to keep Anglesey safe.”
