Thought for the week
SOME friends kindly took me along Llandudno prom at the weekend to see the latest attraction on the pier, the Ferris Wheel which looks like the London Eye. It was late afternoon and it was lit up with silver lights which sparkled and twinkled in the sunshine.
It reminded me of a visit I made to see family in London many years ago when the London Eye had just opened.
The family had made a booking and got tickets for us to enjoy a ride on this new city attraction, and I really enjoyed the 20 minutes or so it took for the whole experience.
One of the things I particularly appreciated was the fact that once you had entered the pod and the ride started, there was nothing else to do except relax and enjoy the spectacular views over London.
One of the current trends for relaxation therapy is mindfulness which helps people to take time out and learn to appreciate the moment. As humans, we are, so I’ve been told, the only species which can look backwards to the past and forwards to the future, and this does put pressure on us.
We can spend a lot of time regretting the past and equally a lot of time worrying about the future.
Jesus suggested that we should not be too anxious about what the next day might bring.
He didn’t mean that we shouldn’t make any plans for the future, but I do believe that we can become too preoccupied with what has happened and what might happen.
Let’s not miss the sunshine by being too busy searching for our macs and wellies!
