Welcome bits of normality... but big challenges await in Senedd
MAE chwe wythnos o Haf wedi hedfan heibio unwaith eto; a dros yr ychydig ddyddiau diwethaf rydym wedi gweld ein plant a’n pobl ifanc yn dychwelyd i addysg. Dros yr haf, mae wedi bod yn hyfryd gweld cymaint o ddigwyddiadau yn cael eu cynnal ar draws Ynys Môn. Un o’r digwyddiadau y llwyddais i eu mynychu oedd Sioe Fach Môn, a gynhaliwyd yn lle’r Sioe Môn arferol. Roedd yn wych gweld cymaint o bobl yn cymryd rhan ac yn mwynhau ychydig bach o normalrwydd unwaith eto. Yr wythnos diwethaf, cefais y pleser o fynd i fan cychwyn y digwyddiad Ring O’ Fire yng Nghaergybi - 3 diwrnod a 135 milltir o rasio ar hyd llwybr arfordirol hyfryd Ynys Môn.
Rydyn ni wedi bod yn ffodus gyda’r tywydd sydd wedi gwneud y digwyddiadau hyn yn fwy pleserus o lawer. Mae’n bwysig ein bod ni’n gallu dychwelyd i ryw fath o normalrwydd ar gyfer ein hiechyd meddwl a’n lles ein hunain, ond mae’r un mor bwysig ein bod ni’n helpu i gadw ein hunain ac eraill yn ddiogel rhag y pandemig parhaus, trwy gael ein brechu a thrwy gadw at y rheolau cyfredol. Gwisgo mwgwd pan allwn ni, ac annog cyfarfodydd awyr agored.
Gall y pethau allweddol hyn hefyd helpu i gadw’r pwysau oddi ar staff anhygoel ein GIG cyn i fisoedd y gaeaf gyrraedd, yn enwedig gan ein bod wedi gweld achosion yn codi’n fwy diweddar. Rhaid inni gofio nad yw’r firws wedi diflannu.
Nawr ei bod hi’n fis Medi unwaith eto, mae’n dod â thymor Senedd newydd hefyd. Er fy mod i’n edrych ymlaen at fynd yn ôl i mewn i bethau, bydd heriau amlwg i’w hwynebu.
Mae Covid a’r pandemig yn un - ac mae angen i ni sylweddoli y bydd llawer o bwysau ar wasanaethau iechyd a gofal y gaeaf hwn. Rwyf wedi gofyn i Lywodraeth Cymru yr wythnos hon a fyddant yn sicrhau bod mwy o arian yn cael ei roi tuag at ddelio â’r pwysau ychwanegol eto’r gaeaf hwn, i helpu ein GIG a’n staff iechyd a gofal i ymdopi.
Rwyf hefyd wedi bod yn aros yn amyneddgar i Lywodraeth y DU ddatgelu eu cynlluniau ar gyfer talu am ofal Cymdeithasol yn y dyfodol. Mae angen dybryd am ddiwygio gofal cymdeithasol yng Nghymru ers amser maith. Mae cleifion yn aros yn yr ysbyty yn hirach nag y mae angen iddynt tra bod gwasanaethau’n dadlau a yw eu hanghenion yn ‘gymdeithasol’ neu’n angen ‘iechyd’ ac mae angen dod â hawliau a chyflog gweithwyr gofal yn raddol yn unol â gweithwyr y
GIG.

Ynys Môn.
SIX weeks of Summer has flown by once again; and over the last few days we’ve seen our children and young people return to education. Over the summer, it’s been lovely seeing so many events being held across Ynys Môn. One of the events I was able to attend was Sioe Fach Môn, held instead of the usual Sioe Môn. It was great to see so many people taking part and enjoying a little bit of normality once again. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Ring O’ Fire starting event at Holyhead - a real test of endurance with 3 days - and 135 miles - of racing along Ynys Môn’s beautiful coastal path.
And we’ve been lucky with the weather which has made these events even more enjoyable. It’s important for us to be able to get back to a form of normality for our own mental health and wellbeing, but it’s equally important that we help keep ourselves and others safe from the ongoing pandemic, by getting vaccinated and by keeping to the current rules in place, wearing a mask when we can, and encouraging outdoor meets.
These key things can also help keep the pressure off our amazing NHS staff before the winter months arrive, especially as we have seen cases rise more recently. We must remember that the virus has not gone away.
Now that it’s September once again, it brings a new Senedd term too. Although I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things, there will be obvious challenges to face.
Covid and the pandemic being one - and we need to realise that there will be a lot of pressure on health and care services this winter. I have asked the Welsh Government this week if they will be ensuring that more money is put towards dealing with the added pressure again this winter, to help our NHS and our health and care staff to cope.
I have also been waiting patiently for the UK Government to reveal their plans for paying for Social Care in the future. Social care in Wales has long been in desperate need of reform. The way it is funded is regressive, patients remain in hospital longer than they need to while services argue whether their needs are ‘social’ or ‘health’ and the rights and pay of care workers need to be brought progressively in line with NHS workers.
