Flint keep up pressure on TNS

- JD Cymru Premier

FLINT Town United bagged three goals in less than halfan-hour in a 4-1 victory at home to Newtown.

Callum Bratley got them going with a sixth minute goal and then Michael Wilde added a second.

Jack Kenny made it three and it could have been more had Wilde not missed a penalty.

Newtown hit back with a goal on the hour from Fumpa Mwandwe and a few minutes late Wilde saw red when he picked up his second yel- low card.

Flint manager Neil Gibson also went into the referee’s notebook and it took a fourth and final home goal from Ben Maher in the 79th minute to calm things down.

Declan McManus is proving to be good value for money for The New Saints and it was the Scottish striker’s 84th minute goal that ensured the JD Cymru Premier leaders left Penybont with a share of the spoils and held onto top spot.

That goal took the £60,000 former Scotland U21 star to the verge of double figures for his new club since joining in the summer and to 99 professional goals in his career. It would have been 100 had another not been chalked off for a foul. Penybont had the better of the chances in the first half before former Wales U21 winger James Waite broke the deadlock on the hour mark to give the home side a deserved

lead.

McManus’ equaliser made it five games unbeaten and ensured Anthony Limbrick kept his team on top of the pile.

Barry Town United gave manager Gavin Chesterfield the perfect present to celebrate becoming the club’s longest-serving manager as they beat reigning champions Connah’s Quay Nomads 1-0 at Jenner Park.

The club threw open the gates and let in their fans for free to celebrate Chesterfield’s 491st game in charge.

His players joined in the carnival atmosphere as well and an eighth minute penalty save by Mike Lewis denied Callum Morris before Rhys Kavanagh scored from a corner in the 24th minute.

The Nomads chased the game, but for the second season in a row Jon Disney received his marching orders at Jenner Park. The experienced defender was given a straight red for hauling down Kavanagh.

That left the champions down to 10 men for the final 35 minutes and they slipped to their first defeat of the season and lost further ground on The New Saints and Flint Town.

Three second-half goals from Darren Thomas, Rob Hughes and Gwion Dafydd earned Caernarfon Town a comfortable 3-0 win over Cefn Druids. To add to the visitors’ woes they had Liam Buckley sent-off for a second yellow card after the break.

Bala Town hit Haverfordwest County for six as they dominated from start to finish. They led 4-1 at the break, with former Welsh international David Edwards getting two of their goals, before Bala finished off the job with two second-half goals to win 6-2.

Emlyn Lewis broke the deadlock at Aberystwyth as he scored with a minute to go to give Cardiff Met a 1-0 away win.
