Pensioner threatened man with drill, spade, pipe and piece of wood

77-YR-OLD HARASSED VICTIM, BUT DIDN’T TURN UP FOR COURT

- David Powell

A 77-year-old pensioner convicted of harassing a man and threatening him with a drill, a spade, a pipe and a piece of wood failed to turn up in court.

David John Lamb committed the harassment offence against a John Williams near Gaerwen on Anglesey last year.

Lamb has also been convicted of threatening to damage or destroy Mr Williams’ tyre in the same village, the court heard.

He faces a further charge of common assault: he has not yet entered a plea to that allegation.

But Lamb did not attend Caernarfon Magistrates Court on Tuesday last week for his latest hearing.

Magistrates heard the defendant has been in hospital and that there have been several adjournments.

However, chairman of the bench Peter Talbot said Mr Lamb should make more of an “effort” to resolve his legal situation.

The clerk read out a letter from Mr Lamb’s GP, dated September 7. It states: “I feel his health is still not at a level where he would be able to attend court proceedings.”

Chairman of the bench Mr Talbot said: “It’s going on and on and on. I’m aware he was hospitalised (but) we don’t have a prognosis or a length of time.

“The maximum we can adjourn for is four weeks. The court should be asking questions as to when, why and how so at least we know what the situation is.

“We are all in agreement that matters have to be progressed soon .... It’s Mr Lamb we need to be pushing as opposed to his medical practitioner. Mr Lamb should be making more of an effort to get this thing satisfied.”

Mr Lamb, of Plas Llangaffo, Gaerwen, has no legal representation.

He has been convicted of harassing John Williams and putting him in fear of violence between March 25 and July 3 last year..

He threatened Mr Williams with a piece of wood on March 26, 2020, with a spade on May 17, 2020 and with a drill, a spade and a pipe on July 2 last year.

And he also threatened to damage a tyre belonging to Mr Williams in Llangaffo on July 2, 2020.

Mr Lamb has not yet pleaded to a separate charge of common assault against Nerys Creek in Llangaffo on August 9 last year.

Magistrates adjourned the cases until next month.
