HOLIDAY PARK SEEKS TO EXPAND AND MODERNISE
A holiday park on Anglesey wants to expand its site with extra caravans and better facilities.
The staycation market has boomed on the island and across North Wales over the pandemic and there is high demand for pitches.
This has seen Mornest Caravan Park in Pentre Berw apply to add 38 static caravan sites and 19 serviced touring pitches.
They also want improved toilet and shower facilities.
A report by Russell Hughes architects said: “The existing site has permission for some 65 units comprising of static caravans and large ‘touring’ vans which are permanently on site but in use during the holiday season.
“The layout is typical of the 1960’s and needs substantial modernisation to allow extended space for the units and improve the quality of the tourism offer. Facilities already on the site include toilet block and permanent drainage to service the units. Our client is proposing to develop an additional 38 static caravans and 19 serviced touring pitches.”
They added: “As previously highlighted, the layout of the park is dated in having regard to the historical planning permissions in place and also the standard to which the site was developed over the years by the owner.
“This has resulted in a compact and crowded layout in parts and there have been associated problems with servicing and infrastructure.
“The proposed development is therefore a concerted effort by the owners to upgrade the park, improve the quality of holiday accommodation on offer and generally improve Mornest as a tourist destination.”
The plans will now be considered by Anglesey council.
