Long-dormant business park could finally get first client

BIO-CNG GAS OPERATOR EYES BRYN CEGIN, BANGOR

ABUSINESS park left empty for 20 years could finally get a tenant.

Parc Bryn Cegin in Bangor has so far failed to attract any businesses despite first being proposed in 2000 and European cash paying for major infrastructure works in 2005.

Business Post revealed a fresh attempt to secure tenants at the 90-acre Welsh Government site last year, with officials in discussions over selling land for development.

Now a plan has been submitted for a BIO-CNG gas fuelling facility to serve fleets of adapted HGVS.

The application is from CNG Fuels Ltd, operator of bio-compressed natural gas (BIO-CNG) refuelling infrastructure, which has a network of stations across the UK.

BIO-CNG is a renewable energy source produced from food waste.

The company wants to take on plot C1 on the park – although the bad news is that this will not create direct work on the site once the facility is erected.

But the applicant argues that this will help to attract other businesses to Parc Bryn Cegin.

A planning statement said: “This application proposes a new BIO-CNG gas fuelling station that will provide important refuelling infrastructure for local logistics and distribution operators, allowing the opportunity to convert their vehicle fleets from diesel to BIO-CNG powered vehicles.

“The development will allow existing local business and those due to locate at Parc Bryn Cegin in the near future the opportunity to invest in BIO-CNG powered vehicles instead of diesel and benefit from the 100% renewable fuel with significant reductions in CO2, NOX and noise emissions.

“Typically, BIO-CNG refuelling stations are connected to a nearby gas distribution pipeline.

“Gas is drawn out of the pipeline via on-site compressors.

“Once compressed, the gas is stored in ground storage modules ready to be dispensed into adapted vehicles.”

The application will be considered by planners at Gwynedd council.
