Expansion plan would mean 20 jobs and thousands of tonnes of cheese
MILLIONS of litres of milk from dozens of Welsh farms would be converted into thousands of tonnes of cheese if planning permission is granted for an Anglesey dairy.
The project would also create 20 full-time jobs.
Island councillors will discuss the application for extension and alterations to the existing building and the erection of additional silos.
The plans also include a car park, new vehicular and pedestrian access, landscaping and associated works at the site on Mona Industrial Park, near Llangefni.
Officers are recommending approval, subject to acceptable responses being received from several agencies who are yet to comment.
Areport to the planning and orders committee says: “The expansion would result in increasing production from 7,800 tonnes to 18,000 tonnes per annum upon completion. 150 million litres of milk from 35 Welsh farms would be converted to 18,000 tonnes of cheese.” “There is a scheduled ancient monument, Graiglas Barrow, around 380 metres to the south west of the application site. No response has been received by Cadw at the time of writing this report.
“The proposed development site is in close proximity to the public watermains. Welsh Water have been consulted upon the application and stated it appears parts of the proposed development would be located within the required easements. At the time of writing this report the applicant is assessing these concerns and is in the process of attempting to resolve matters by undertaking surveys of the site.”
The report concludes the proposed development would provide a significant investment to the surrounding area which would create numerous direct and indirect jobs.
Officers recommend that subject to the receipt of acceptability by the outstanding consultation responses that planning permission is granted.
