Braving chilly sea for St David’s Dip

-

BRAVE supporters embraced the cold waters and took a plunge into the Irish Sea for the second St David’s Dip!

The sun was shining and spirits were high as the dippers ran towards the shoreline at Porth Eirias beach in Colwyn Bay. CFX Wellbeing kindly volunteered to get the participants warmed up before heading into the cold waters.

Bryn Williams at Porth Eirias donated cakes for those brave enough to go into the sea would be able to warm up with coffee and cake afterwards, which went down a treat!

We then welcomed Arthur Hughes to entertain guests by singing some of his favourite hits.

Participants came from far, but none further than Hannah Cossa travelling all the way from California to join in. Hannah’s nan Beryl Paddock volunteers at St David’s Hospice, and her Papa was a regular at Café Dewi before he passed. Her ‘nan’ and ‘pap’ have inspired Hannah to fundraise for the local charity.

Hannah describes her experience at the dip: “I had such a wonderful time at the St David’s Dip, it was so much fun!

“There was a real sense of togetherness and joy with everyone who participated, volunteered, and cheered us on!

“The event was so well organised and just a real pleasure to be a part of!”

Hannah has raised an incredible £610 for St David’s Hospice, smashing her target of £250.

Many of the swimmers were in fancy dress, there were daffodils, dragons, Welsh ladies and even a pirate. Prizes were kindly donated by Mor Watersports for the best dressed individuals.

The event was to raise funds for St David’s Hospice, a local charity, caring for local people. It delivers specialist care, free of charge to adult patients with life limiting illnesses or those in need of end of life care and their families.

Rhian Jacobs, St David’s Hospice Event and Campaigns Manager said: “Thank you to everyone who participated in the second St David’s Dip, it was wonderful to see such a great turnout!

“I’d also like to thank Bryn Williams at Porth Eirias, CFX Wellbeing, Arthur Hughes, the Burke Family, Steve Jeffrey, St John’s Ambulance and our great volunteers who supported the event.

“It was great to see so many of our supporters, local and from afar come join us for a fun morning!”
