Housing group unveils 54-home scheme

-

A HOUSING group has unveiled plans for a new estate on the edge of an Anglesey town. Clwydalyn wants to build 54 properties on fields at Cae Rhos, off Porthdafarch Road in Holyhead.

They would be a mix of open market and affordable units with high demand in the area for homes. There is already outline permission - granted at appeal - in place on the site for 36 homes.

The new plan includes 20 one bed flats, 4 two bed bungalows, 10 two bed dwellings and 12 three bed dwellings.

A consultation on the proposals has been started by Cadnant Planning ahead of an application being submitted to Anglesey council.

Cadnant Planning said: “The proposal will seek full planning permission for the erection of 54 dwellings with associated informal open space, landscaped areas associated internal access road and pedestrian link to existing footpath on land adjacent to Cae Rhos.

“The proposed development has sought to make the best use of land and has designed a layout which is in keeping with the density and character of surrounding sites.”

They added: “In terms of the social benefits of the proposed development, the scheme will be developed on behalf of and managed by Clwydalyn which is a housing association which provides for affordable family housing.

“The type of housing proposed reflects a need for single person accommodation and first-time family houses in Holyhead, predominantly providing dwellings suitable for small families.

The development would include six affordable dwellings.

It is considered that these will appear attractive to young people and families, thus ensuring that local young people are able to stay within the community.”

On the economic benefits, a planning statement added: “In terms of the economic benefits that will arise from the proposed development, in the short term the proposal will offer employment opportunities and additional spend within the locality during the construction period.

“In the longer term new housing also deliver significant economic benefits including jobs, additional spending in the local economy and an increase to local authority revenue.”
