Whisky distillery expands with jobs created
ABER Falls Whisky Distillery has unveiled a new extension to its distillery in Abergwyngregyn.
Work started in October 2022, with recent HMRC approval allowing Aber Falls to commence 24-hour production from 10 February 2023.
The extension has seen new storage tanks installed, utilising previously unused outdoor space at the site.
The development will allow the distillery to produce greater volumes of whisky and ramp up to 24-hour production. In addition to this, more washbacks (cylindrical vessels where the spirit is fermented) have been put in place in order to increase overall yield.
The growth has also seen the Welsh distillery create eight new job opportunities. An additional six distillery operatives recently joined Aber Falls to help run the 24-hour operation with a further two roles to be filled at the cask warehouse.
The expansion comes as a direct result of increased demand for Aber Falls Whisky in the export market. Thanks to the recent development, Aber Falls - owned by Halewood Artisanal Spirits - will be able to facilitate between 24 and 28 mashes per week, expecting to produce around 500,000 litres of spirit per annum.
Sam Foster, distillery manager at Aber Falls, said: “We are so pleased to announce our expansion is now complete. We are proud to say that the demand for our product has exceeded all expectations, having only launched our first single malt whisky in 2021. We know the changes will now allow us to ramp up production, which will benefit the local economy, as we use locally sourced ingredients, whilst our expansion has seen us welcome new employees here in Abergwyngregyn. The distillery is a multipurpose space where we produce outstanding whisky and also welcome visitors for tours and Gin Lab experiences, so it was extremely important this expansion was completed with minimal disruption and as swiftly as possible, to ensure the best possible experience for our visitors.”
