Bomb squad called to beach to deal with ordnance find

-

A BOMB disposal team was called to a beach on Anglesey.

Traeth Bach in Cemaes Bay had to be cordoned off after ordnance was discovered on the beach.

The explosive was a small rusted shell that measured a few inches in length. The discovery was made by a member of the Cemaes Bay Coastguard Search and Rescue team at 9am on Tuesday last week.

The area was then closed off to the public following the arrival of the bomb squad later that day at 5pm, Coastguard North and Mid Wales posted on Facebook. Coastguard North and Mid Wales said: “Out [yesterday] with Cemaes Bay Coastguard Search and Rescue due to one of their team discovering ordinance.

“A very long day with the item being found at 9am and EOD (Bomb Disposal) arriving at 5pm to make safe and dispose of the item. A great result with the item being safely removed and once more making the coastline safe again. Now home for cakes and medals.”

A MAN with learning difficulties offered to buy a “13-year-old girl” roses and chocolates as he groomed her. But Robert Roberts’ victim was really an undercover police officer.

The 35-year-old admitted attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity. A judge last week gave him a two-year jail term, suspended for two years.

Mold Crown Court heard Roberts had contacted the “girl”, supposedly called Molly and aged 13, on the Kik app on September 29, 2021.

Prosecutor David Mainstone said Roberts, of Holyhead Road, Gaerwen, told “Molly” he was a 30-year-old man from Bangor. He was in fact 33 at the time.

But “Molly” was an undercover police officer posing as a child online to identify and stop potential sexual offenders.

Mr Mainstone said Roberts asked Molly if she wanted to lose her virginity and that he would buy condoms.

Two days later on October 28, 2021, the defendant messaged Molly to say he was in bed and sent her two more intimate photos.

He also gave her instructions on how to perform a sex act on herself. Police were called in and Roberts was arrested on December 8, 2021. He gave no comment answers in interviews.

But officers seized his laptop which contained photographs which “Molly” had received. Roberts pleaded guilty to attempting to cause or incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity and was given a suspended sentence.

The judge fined Roberts £1,000 and ordered him to pay £725 court costs. He must do 45 days of rehabilitation activity.

He also admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and attempting to cause a child aged 13 to 15 to watch or look at an image of sexual activity. There were no separate penalties for those offences.

He was given a sexual harm prevention order and notification requirement for ten years.
