ABOUT THE HOSPICE

-

ST David’s Hospice will be bringing its Dawn Walk to Anglesey in August.

This will be the first year that the event has taken place on the island and has been inspired thanks to the sunrise enjoyed by the patients and staff at the Hospice’s unit at Holyhead’s Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley.

The five-mile walk will start at 4.30am from the Holyhead Hotspurs clubhouse, passing the back of the hospice grounds allowing walkers to take a moment to stop, reflect and watch the breathtaking sunrise.

Rhian Jacobs, Events Manager for the Hospice said:

“We’re so excited to be bringing our first ever Anglesey Dawn Walk to

Holyhead.

“Get together with your friends, family and of course your four-legged friends!

“Whether you want to remember a loved one, take part in a challenge, or simply take in the stunning sunrise at Holyhead! Your support will make a big difference to our patients and their families in our care.”

Event sponsor Rhiannon Binyon from Anglesey Kennels and Cattery said:

“We feel supporting St David’s Hospice is vitally important for our local community and we are extremely lucky to have the Hospice at Penrhos. As a cattery and dog care services we work with many local residents, and we know how important the Hospice is to many of them.”

The registration fee for the event, which will take place on Sunday 6 August, is £20 for adults, £12.50 children and £5 for dogs.

Each registered walker will receive a registration pack and a sausage or bacon bap, with a vegetarian option, courtesy of the Holyhead Hotspurs. Davey Hughes from the Hotspurs said:

“We as a Community based Football Club are so proud to be able to help the Hospice in any way, it is such a blessing to have this facility on our doorstep.

“Sadly one of our own Committee Members had to go to a Hospice out in Llandudno, but now having Penrhos Stanley Hospice available can help make an unbearable situation for Families just that bit easier.”

Registrations are open now at www.stdavidshospice.org.uk

St David’s Hospice is a local charity, caring for local people, delivering specialist care to adult patients with lifelimiting illnesses or those in need of end-of-life care and their families.

Every year, this touches the lives of over 1000 people within our local communities from across the counties of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

We offer 24 hour care, 365 days a year providing a clinical service alongside emotional, physical and spiritual support. In our Day Therapy Centres, we provide patient care, bereavement, and counselling services, whilst our Inpatient Units in Llandudno and Holyhead offer symptom control, respite, and end-of-life care.

This year it will cost over £6 million to run St David’s Hospice with just a small percentage of that from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board.

The majority of this comes from community fundraising.

None of these costs are passed to the patients, their families or carers, because St David’s Hospice care is free to all.
