confrontation”.

The defendant Parry put his hands through the driver’s window and grabbed Mr Dieter-gill in the driver’s seat. He strangled Mr Dieter-gill who struggled to breathe.

Mr Dieter-gill was so afraid he managed to pick up a baseball bat and went to hit Parry. Staff came out of the kebab shop and tried to pull Parry off Mr Dieter-gill.

But Parry kicked and smashed one of Mr Dieter-gill’s headlights, said the prosecutor. Parry walked off and his victim rang police. But Parry returned with the ratchet and tried to threaten Mr Dieter-gill with it through his car window. But Mr Dieter-gill grabbed it and Parry walked off again.

In a statement the driver said he was left with a sore throat from being strangled and is wary about being followed. He was also annoyed he had to pay for the headlight to be repaired.

Dafydd Roberts, defending, said his client is very sorry and ashamed for his behaviour. He works for a construction company on Anglesey.

The judge Her Honour Nicola Saffman gave Parry a five month jail term for affray and one month in jail, to run concurrently, for threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place. Both terms are suspended for 12 months.

There was no separate penalty for causing criminal damage to the car. She also ordered the defendant to do 150 hours of rehabilitation activity, pay £410 compensation and £500 towards prosecution costs. She made a five-year restraining order prohibiting Parry from contacting his victim directly or indirectly.
