Taylor top-scores as relegation-battling Monk Bretton stay in survival hunt

MONK Bretton gained a crucial victory in their relegation battle as they won by 40 runs at home to Norton Oakes in

Division Two.

Daniel Taylor made 89 in the Monks’

176 which was the highest score by a first team player at a Barnsley club this week.

Ashley Clayton took four wickets and Craig Heppenstal­l three.

The Monks remain in the drop zone, 28 points from safety.

Penistone fell 14 runs short chasing 198 at home to Wickersley. Matt Scholey took five wickets.

Houghton Main fell eight runs short chasing 167 at home to Sheffield Collegiate 2nd XI in the Championsh­ip.

Tereiq Worrall took six wickets then Michael Brown made 52.

Wath fell 66 runs short chasing 225 at Sprotbroug­h. Sam Whitlam took five wickets and brother Jack Whitlam three.

Green Moor stayed last after a four-wicket loss at Shiregreen.

Jake Rodgers took three wickets but the hosts chased 172 with six down.

Second-bottom Rockingham missed the chance to drag Barnsley Woolley Miners 2nd XI into the relegation fight.

Harry Grindle made 63 in Rock’s 181 but Freddie Chapman (67) secured the seven-wicket win for third-bottom Barnsley who are 28 points clear of the two-team relegation zone.

Darfield stayed second in Division One with a low-scoring win over Coal Aston.

The visitors were skittled for 91 with Saman Khursheed taking six wickets and Idris Khan four. Kastun Stoute then opened with 50 off 23 balls including seven fours and three sixes. Darfield lost six wickets but won in the 14th over.

Worsbrough Bridge won by a wicket as they chased 155 at home to Frechevill­e in Division Three. Callum Bentley took four wickets and Mark Wilkinson three then Alec Grange made 59. The win took Worsbrough out of the relegation zone.

Kexborough were skittled for 96 in a nine-wicket loss to Wath 2nd XI, with Mark Barlow taking seven for 29.

Elsecar 2nd XI stayed top with a 91-run win over Sprotbroug­h 2nd XI.

Chris Pedler hit 80 in Elsecar’s 236.

Higham’s 189 was not enough in a six-wicket defeat at home to Millhouses. George Deegan made 58.

Silkstone United lost by three wickets in the final over against Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rd XI. Luke Whitmore made 52 in Silkstone’s 190 then Jakob Taylor took three wickets.

Rockingham 2nd XI won by 20 runs at

Cawthorne 2nd XI. Ryan Mann made 55 in Rock’s 159, with Cawthorne’s Ryan Bagshaw taking four wickets.

Division Five leaders Wombwell Main chased 124 for a four-wicket win over Conisbroug­h 2nd XI. Richard Wilkinson took four wickets then Tom GoldsbyWes­t made 59 not out.

Arsalan Khalid scored 54 not out as Darfield 2nd XI won by six wickets at Hallam 3rd XI, who had been bowled out for 131.

Harley lost by four wickets at home to Higham 2nd XI in Division Seven.

Jamie Oliver made 56 in Harley’s 138.

Dearne were beaten by three wickets at home to Wath 3rd XI in Division Eight.

Patrick License made 59 as Wath chased 125.

Houghton Main 2nd XI won by 168 runs at Fishlake 2nd XI.

Kyle Head made 74 then Matt Thornton hit 65 off 40 in Houghton’s 228.

Fishlake were skittled for 60 with Head taking six wickets.

Penistone 2nd XI dismissed Sprotbroug­h 3rd XI for 79 in a five-wicket

Division Six win.

Green Moor 2nd XI fell 28 runs short chasing 145 against Thorpe Hesley 2nd

XI. Jack Gillespie took four for 19.

Matthew Woods was run out for 91 but

Kexborough 2nd XI beat Whiston Forge 2nd XI by 155 runs in Division Nine.

Kexborough made 265 then Andrew Greaves took four wickets.

Rockingham 4th XI chased 160 for a two-wicket win over Wombwell Town 2nd XI. Rob Owen took four wickets for Wombwell.
