St Paul’s

Fr Michael Johnson celebrated mass last Sunday. Altar servers were Lynda Brown, Malcolm Patterson, Debbie Griffin, Daisy Hirst and Shannon Atkins. Side duties were performed by Beryl Watson and Mary Bullock. Organist was Robert Rowland. Readings were given by Wendy Thompson and Shirley Rawson. The Psalm was sung by the choir and Fr Johnson read the Gospel, gave the sermon and led the prayers. The mums and toddlers group is now closed for the summer holidays and will return on Monday September 5.

Chapel

The service on Sunday will be a streamed service led by Rev Claire Rawlinson and will include Communion. The 27th Guides will not meet again until September but yoga takes place from 7-8pm. Hartbeeps meet on Wednesday from 10am-3.30pm. There is no One Stop shop this Thursday. U3A Dancing takes place on Fridays from 7-9pm. Next Sunday at 10.30am the service will be led by Mr Stephen Franklin. On Saturday September 6 there will be a coffee morning at 10.30am and all proceeds will go to Barnsley Hospice.

Club

Playing in the Monday night pool league, Monk Bretton beat Keel 4-3 and the team was Kienan Ashton, Glyn Ashton, Josh Juhasz, Steve Juhasz, Ryan Brooke, Ryan Perry and Sam. Bingo is played every Thursday night from 8.30pm. Saturday’s entertainm­ent is Retro Brothers who’ll be on stage from 8.45pm.

Pheasant

The ladies section hold a quiz and bingo night every Tuesday from 8pm as well as ‘play your cards right’. Last weeks winners were Duane and Porky who scored 18 out 20. Carol had a winning ticket for ‘play your cards right’ but didn’t get to the end. Thursday night is Buskers and last night was Roy St Clair and next week Sky Adams will entertain.

Sun

There is a speed quiz every Friday from 8pm, last weeks winners were Jimmy and team who scored a total of 187 points. On Sunday, live at five entertainm­ent is ‘Jukebox Idols’, formerly ‘Boomtarn’ (two members).
