Good turn-out and plenty of prizes for Barnsley AC runners at races around Nostell Priory

THERE was a good turnout for Barnsley AC at the Priory 10k, set in the grounds and gardens of Nostell Priory.

Gail Colville recorded 41-55 to finish as second woman, one place and 19 seconds clear of club-mate Vicky Shaw.

Dean Winter was first home for the club, finishing ninth in 38-09 and winning the first over45 men’s prize.

Other prize-winners were Christina Laking, first over40 woman, and Faye Lund, first over45 woman.

Gail, Vicky and Christina also won the women’s team prize.

Simon Haywood was the first of six Barnsley Harriers, finishing 16th overall and first over45 man out of 33.

Lisa Clarkson was second woman out of 25, while Mark Rawnsley finished as third over55.

Barnsley AC’s Niamh Evans ran in the preceding 5k race and finished third in a time of 23-08.

Barnsley Harrier Simon Haywood was the first runner to complete ten laps at the Manvers Dawn Till Dusk race.

Simon had already run more than 32 miles when he had to retire due to a foot injury.

Scott Wilson covered 32.66 miles in 8-29-32.

At the Northumber­land 14.3-mile Coastal Race, Alan Ford was the first of seven Barnsley Harriers.

Despite the heat and very strong headwinds, Alan finished seventh and first over45.

New Barnsley Harrier Emma Moore was second woman at the Hepworth Trail Race, with Caroline Batty fifth over45 woman and Paul Wheatley running his first race as an over70 for third place.

Three Penistone Footpath Runners took part in the Blacka Moor Chase Fell Race. Over 4.2 miles with 827 feet of climbing, Daniel Limb was first back in 22nd place with 34-45. Becky Timms was fifth over40 woman in 39-28 while Steve Storey was fifth over60 man in 43-41.

At the five-mile Bradfield Bash Race, Penistone’s Dan Limb was fifth in 42-58 while Simon Pike was eighth in 45-22. Penistone’s Phil Montgomery finished 44th in the English Fell Championsh­ips at the Old Crown Round Fell Race in a time of four hours and 15 minutes on the 23.21-mile course.

On the roads, Penistone’s Dawn Broom finished as first 50-59 woman at the Laxton 10k Road Race near Goole in a time of 44-57.

Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville and Vicky Shaw both broke their respective age category records at the Cusworth Hall ParkRun.

Vicky was first woman and first over40 with 20-12, 88 seconds quicker than the previous record.

Gail knocked almost three minutes off the over55 women’s record, finishing in 20-33.
