Abandoned land needs sorting – councillor

-

WORSBROUGH councillor Jake Lodge has pushed the council to act after several large pieces of land across the area have been left desolate for years.

Coun Lodge has been working to tackle this issue for a while, with little to no action taken by Barnsley Council to use their enforcement powers to force owners to clean up their land. However, after raising this at Full Council, Coun Lodge has received assurances that the council will now act.

“They confirmed they will use whichever enforcement tool necessary for each case, this ranges from Community Protection Notices or their powers under Section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act,” he said.

“Under these powers, the council could either force the owners to undertake the work or undertake the work and recharge them.”

He added: “I’ve been working since before I was elected to tackle these desolate pieces of land, which are impacting on the visual appearance of several parts of my ward.

“In 2016, I launched a petition to clear up desolate land on Cross Street, Worsbrough Dale and six years later and after several referrals, it’s the same.

“It’s not just on Cross Street either, it’s on Park Road, Darley Avenue, and others. I’m glad that the council are now committed to taking actions.

“I’m committed to a cleaner and greener Worsbrough, so I’m hoping this will contribute towards that.”
