Driven mad by author’s claims

- JOHN CRAVEN, Pontefract Road, Shafton

The letter by J Danks from Kexborough regarding elderly drivers needing another driving test after the ages of 60 had me fuming.

Well, here are some statistics you are probably not aware of – many young drivers who have just passed their driving test are more likely to have a crash in the first year of taking to the roads.

Then the law allows many of these young drivers to pass their test in a small car of 1,200-1,300cc only to then start driving a more powerful car that they can’t handle.

After a driving test every new driver should, by law, have to display green pass ‘P’ plates for 12 months until they gain more skills.

As for speeding fines, it’s the younger drivers who hold the most speeding points, not older drivers.

It’s the younger drivers who tend not to wear seat belts while also using their mobile phones.

Then there is that deafening bumping noise called music from their vehicles to the extent of not being able to hear any emergency vehicles behind them.

That’s why us older drivers’ insurance is much cheaper than yours, I guess.
