Dancing town is to make return...

- By Lucy James

THE popular Dancing Town initiative is returning this summer with a wide variety of free workshops.

The workshops will be led by expert instructors in different styles ranging from yoga, ballet, hip hop, and breakdancing to Bollywood and English Sword Dancing.

Over the years, the Dancing Town event has progressed massively following the success of the BBC Two series Our Dancing Town in 2017.

The series followed West End choreographer Steve Elias on his mission to

‘get Barnsley dancing’.

The show unearthed a widespread love of dancing and a strong sense of pride within the community.

With the aim to be just as successful as in previous years, the event returns to Barnsley.

Throughout the week, there will be numerous workshops and will offer a selection of different dance styles for everyone to enjoy with no previous experience needed at all.

Expert dancers will be leading the workshops, with the likes of Erica Mulkern and RationaleArts leading some of the classes.

The workshops will take place every Wednesday and Saturday throughout August, on the third floor of Library @ the Lighbox in the events room which has a sprung floor designed for dancing.

The dancing workshops will end in a brilliant finale in September in a collaboration with The Civics’ annual Garden Party.
