Barnsley AC junior team stay in Premier Division

BARNSLEY AC’s junior athletes retained their place in the Premier Division after match four of the Junior Yorkshire and District Athletics League.

In wet conditions at Cleethorpe­s’ King George V Stadium, a depleted team picked up 149 points to finish in third place.

Under 13 Maya Schofield won the 150m with 20.7 and 800m in 2-23.6, under 15 Amelia Spicer won the 200m in 28.3 and 300m in 46.7.

Under 13 boy Joshua Viyazhante won the 150m with 21.9 and 80m in 11.9.

In the under 17 girls, Ellie Stephenson won the 300m with 48.8 and Niamh Evans the 800m with 2-43.4.

Olivia Jane Ward won the under 15s girls’ long jump with 3.78.

Second places went to Daisy Marley, Keelan Priestley and Evie Donaldson.

Barnsley AC’s Naomi Drakeford was second woman at the seventh installmen­t of the 2022 Oxspring Trunce.

Penistone Footpath Runner George Parr came fourth at the Stoney Middleton Fell Race which is five miles in length with 700 feet of ascent. George’s time was 35-23.

Ray Brown claimed first place in the men’s over75 category, while Damian Kilpin and Helen Wright took third in the men’s over45 and women’s over40 categories respective­ly.

Steve Storey finished just outside the medals in the men’s over65 category with fourth.

Other Penistone runners taking part were Harriet Drouin and Mark Graham.

Penistone’s Nick Whittingha­m completed the Durham Coastal Half Marathon in 2-40-34.

That put him eighth in the men’s over60 category.

Penistone’s Harriet Drouin completed the Denholme Doddle which is 21 miles with 3,300 feet of climbing.

She had planned to do the 27-mile version but came to the aid of a friend who had picked up an injury and needed assistance.

Her finishing time was 5-35. Penistone’s Dawn Broom was first woman at the Penistone ParkRun, with club-mate Heather Simpson second on her birthday.

Penistone’s John Lawcock notched up his 100th ParkRun at Woodbank as did club-mate Dave Foster who passed the same milestone at Hillsborou­gh.
