Three Hughes brothers reach finals
THREE brothers from Darfield reached finals at the amateur Manchester Box Cup Championship this week.
Sonnyboy Hughes won the under 52kg final with a unanimous decision.
Jonson Hughes reached the 44kg final but his opponent withdrew.
Marshall Hughes lost his final in the 66kg category but collected a silver medal.
Their father Jason Hughes said: “It was a really good weekend for all of them. Sonnyboy boxed unbelievably and is the champion.
“Marshall boxed well all weekend and lost on a split decision in the final which could have gone either way.
“Jonson’s opponent didn’t want to box an hour before the final.
“They are ready for the national championships in September.”
The brothers, who train at Kings ABC in Sheffield, are also successful cross country runners – winning regional titles and competing at the English Schools Championship.
