Cannon Hall exhibition is drawing to a close
TIME is running out for art lovers to view an historic artwork that’s been housed at Cannon Hall.
Evelyn De Morgan’s Flora – which was completed in 1894 – will be packed up on August 29 ahead of its 18-month tour of the USA.
Flora is a typical Pre-Raphaelite, with flowing ginger hair and striking features. The model was Jane Hales, who was a maid to Evelyn De Morgan’s family.
This makes the picture extra special to Barnsley, according to historians, as Evelyn’s mother was Anna Spencer Stanhope and grew up at Cannon Hall.
