Walking route will be good for everyone
The construction of a three-metre-wide route from Barnsley to Royston is something to look forward to.
The route is to follow the A61 Wakefield Road up to the Eastfield Arms pub and then onto the old railway line to Lee Lane in Royston.
Why has it to stop there, though?
Why not continue along the old line, which is part of the Royston-Carlton boundary walk, and go into Royston?
It is worthy of an upgrade – the ward councillors should be aware of its existence, though do they ever walk it?
Wakefield Road, just out of the town centre from
Old Mill Lane, is to have a third traffic lane, providing additional space for slow-moving traffic.
All this shows their confined worship to the motorcar, as usual it will cost more than the first estimate, the construction work will be very disruptive, and there are no hard facts on what it will achieve.
Just go back to the objectives of their all Wakefield Road quality bus corridor...
We have today more traffic on this road, bringing more congestion, and therefore more air pollution, and a deteriorating bus service – will this change bring about a better environment to live in?
Come on councillors, what’s it all about?
