‘Nobody should ever suffer in silence’

- By Jack Tolson

DESPICABLE Glenn Millthorpe’s victims hope their harrowing story will encourage more people to come forward and be inspired to report cases of abuse.

Jade hopes that if just one person can be helped by her and brothers Jake and Ryan telling their story, then it will be worth it.

“I would want nothing more than to inspire people with untold stories to come forward,” she said.

“My abuse ended at 12 and I am now 19, almost 20 – and my abuser was still charged with all offences against him. I want to prove it doesn’t matter how much time passes, the truth always comes out.

“And a liar can never remember their lies – they tell too many.

“I want people to be aware of my name because I don’t think there should be any shame or embarrassment around child sex abuse especially with it being a family member.

“It has mentally destroyed me, I could have had help a lot sooner and I wish I would have spoke up as a child. Signs and symptoms of abuse should be made more aware and I will never stop sharing my story.

“I just want to help others, be someone for people with untold stories to hear about and become inspired or motivated to come forward and tell theirs.”

Jade recalled feeling uncomfortable at the time the sick incidents were occurring, and says her uncle would play twisted games with her.

“I remember I was upstairs and had awoke screaming for my mum and dad because I had a nightmare,” she added.

“I’d forgotten my uncle was babysitting and was calling out for my mum and dad. My uncle came upstairs into my bedroom and had reassured me that it was just a nightmare and that my dad would be home soon.

“I remember him kissing me and then he sexually assaulted me in my bedroom – I remember feeling confused and uncomfortable.

“I wanted to stay little forever and this is something grown ups did.

“He played a game called Dracula. “He would suck or kiss our necks and even if we screamed and said we didn’t like it, he would still do it.

“At first I was embarrassed – that’s why I kept it in so long – but now I understand and I want to use my story for others to reach out.

“Nobody should ever suffer in silence.”
