Checkout the big total raised by league

- By Lucy James

WORSBROUGH Common Darts League raised more than £500 for homeless veterans in Barnsley.

The charity they donated the total to was Royston-based Help 4 Homeless Veterans.

Lee Narey, finance secretary of Worsborough Common Darts league, said: “We chose to donate to this particular charity because one of the lads in the league sadly lost his partner a couple of months ago.

“He’s a veteran – he served in the Navy on submarines for 20-something years, so it’s a cause that means a lot to him and the rest of us. At the funeral, instead of people bringing flowers to the service, the family asked to collect donations for homeless veterans in the area just to help them out really, and to give something back to the community.”

Each year, the league raise funds for a local charity to help out, and serve their part in the community.

Lee added: “Usually, when we raise money, we split the total between two charities – before, we gave half to Riding for the Disabled, and half to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, but we chose to give every penny of this to

Help 4 Homeless Veterans in the Barnsley area.

“We only ever fundraise for local charities – we just like to help out in the local community and give something back to them.

“Fundraising is something we’ve always done, and it’s something we will continue to do.”
