MP blasts energy cap announcement

-

BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis has slammed the ‘shocking’ energy price cap announcement.

Ofgem announced last week that the price cap will rise to £3,549 in October – an 80 per cent increase.

Dan told the Chronicle: “I know people in Barnsley will be hugely worried about the energy price cap announcement.

“As it stands, for many a warm home this winter won’t be an option and I’m deeply concerned thousands in Barnsley will be effectively priced-out of a decent and healthy standard of living.

“The government knew the price hike was coming and have had months to prepare. It’s beyond pathetic that they haven’t come forward with a plan to meet the scale of this crisis. Labour’s plans would have stopped this price hike and I’m deeply concerned without immediate urgent intervention from the government, thousands of my constituents will be forced to live in dangerously cold homes this winter.

“The government must urgently intervene and step-up support to get cash back in people’s pockets and money off bills.”
