£1,200 raised in various GXO events
A GXO site manager has raised more than £1,200 for local charity BIADS.
Richard Burdin, nicknamed Richard the Lion Heart, has been fundraising in a number of ways for the dementia charity.
In January, the Grimethorpebased firm chose BIADS as their favoured charity for the following year – and they’ve been inventive with some of their ideas.
As well as donating prizes for the charity’s summer raffle and providing volunteers for a variety of events, Richard subjected himself to a series of challenges last month.
He gave up cigarettes for a day, before placing himself in stocks whilst colleagues threw wet sponges at him.
He also dressed as a prisoner and locked himself in a room until £300 was raised – and his efforts helped raise a total of £1,233 for the charity.
Sue Hunter, development manager at BIADS, said: “The staff at GXO have excelled themselves so far as corporate partners go and their support is truly appreciated by all at BIADS.
“We are enjoying working with them and can’t thank them enough for their willingness to go above and beyond in raising funds for us.
“The engagement team are very responsive to our requests, the volunteers are wonderful and Richard really does have the heart of a lion.”
There’s still a few months to go of the partnership, at which point the final total raised will be revealed and all funds raised will go towards supporting families in Barnsley whose lives are affected by dementia.
BIADS receives no statutory funding and relies solely on fundraising activities including donations, corporate, community, grants, trusts and legacies.
