Barnsley AC star Hinchcliff­e wins final leg of Silkstone Shuffle series by nearly two minutes

SCOTT Hinchcliff­e of Barnsley AC won the final leg of the Silkstone Shuffle trail race series by almost two minutes.

The race took place over 4.65 miles on a multi-terrain course with more than 100 runners. Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw was second woman, with club-mate Emma Moore third, while Adam Chambers was third man.

Penistone’s Tom Fryers was first senior man and fourth overall with 30-59, his club-mate Bill Phillips first over70 and Malcolm Coles first over80.

Barbara Haigh won the over50 and over70 women’s prices respective­ly.

Barnsley Harriers plan to run the threerace Shuffle series again on Thursday evenings through spring and summer in 2023, dovetailin­g with the three-race Higham Hurtle series.

Richard Spooner was first of three Barnsley Harriers at the Gilberdyke TenMile Road Race near Selby. He missed out on a new PB by 16 seconds, which he set on the same course three years ago.

There were five PBs for Barnsley AC. Mark Wood was faster by three minutes, Gemma Thickett by two minutes, Naomi Drakeford by 20 seconds to finish as eighth woman and Vicky Shaw by more than ten minutes to finish as second over40 woman. Gail Colville was first over55 woman with a PB.

In the penultimat­e race of the Oxspring Trunce series, Penistone’s George Parr finished second in 26-54.

Barbara Haigh was first over70 woman, Martyn Goodwin second over40 man, Karen Wilson third over40 woman and Sarah Halstead third over50 woman.

In the junior race, Graihagh Turner was second overall and first girl.

Oliver France claimed third place in the boys’ competitio­n.

The 5.5-mile Denby Dash took place on Monday.

Penistone’s Julia Johnson was third woman overall and first over50 woman.

Lesley Parker was fourth woman overall and won the over40 category.

Keith Gordon claimed first place in the men’s over70 category and Simon Pike was first back for the club in eighth.

Barnsley AC’s Gemma Thickett finished 41st in 50-01. Faye Lund was 66th with 53-35 in her third race in five days.

Harrier Thomas Lawcock ran in the Ellesmere 10k Road Race, finishing

253rd in 60-21.

The annual Barnsley AC Worsbrough Reservoir Relay took place last week.

Twelve teams of three, primarily made up of a senior male, female and veteran male, ran a 1.5 miles lap of Worsbrough Reservoir. The leading time of 27-07 was Team H made up of Naomi Drakeford (9-04), George Haxby (8-56) and Richard Price (9-07).

Penistone’s James Fryers claimed first place at the Barnsley ParkRun in 18-10, while his brother Tom achieved the milestone of 250 ParkRuns.

At the Hillsborou­gh Junior ParkRun, Penistone’s Flynn Rogers was first place in 9-29.

At the Barnsley ParkRun, Barnsley Harrier Mike Schofield finished sixth overall and first over50 in a course PB of 20-15. Hayley Johnson was first woman.
