Back to school adds to traffic frustrations

- NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED

Traffic has always been bad in Barnsley, but perhaps many of us had forgotten the torture of rush hour because schools were off.

We were living in paradise coasting along but now it’s nothing but stop-start journeys.

Getting onto the M1 at junction 37 this week has been a nightmare.

I’ve been queuing from Town End roundabout all the way up to Horizon for at least 20 minutes three times this week.

And then there seems to be an interminable number of roadworks to contend with as well.

Are we approaching the end of a financial year and cash needs to be spent – so someone thinks it’s a good idea to dig up a few roads, I wonder?

The resurfacing of Doncaster Road from what used to be the Junction pub to Taylor Row seemed to last forever.

I realise this kind of work needs to be done but surely there could be some consideration given to not having multiple sets of major roadworks all ongoing at the same time? My regular trip to Wombwell should normally take 20 minutes even in a rush hour.

A couple of weeks ago, it was taking 45 minutes.

I’m just praying it’ll all calm down when parents let their kids get the school bus in on a morning – because at the minute it’s unbearable.

Bring on half-term.
