Fundraising walk for Craig

-

MORE than two dozen people spent their weekend in Wales climbing Mount Snowdon in aid of one of their friends who was involved in a traffic accident last year.

Craig Walton, 32, from Mapplewell, was involved in a serious road traffic incident on November 4, after a head-on collision with another driver resulted in him being trapped in his lorry for over an hour.

He was cut out of his seat and airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary Hospital where his right leg was amputated below the knee.

His family said it had ‘changed his life forever’. Since then, Chris has undergone intense rehabilitation and made it to his goal to climb Mount Snowden.

Chris’s family and friends decided to set up a fundraiser in the hope of raising £5,000 where proceeds would be distributed between Barnsley Mind, Weston Park Cancer Charity and Matthew’s A Friend In Me.

So far more than £5,200 has been raised. Dave from Yorkshire Rose also took part in the climb, and arranged a free coach to take all the attendees to Wales and then back to Barnsley.

He said: “It was a real inspiration to meet Craig Walton who lost his leg in an accident last year, but this definitely didn’t slow him down.

“He has such a positive mindset.

“We put on a free coach for everyone who took part in the climb, this is another tick off my list.

“It was a great experience and would recommend it to every one.”

The Garrison, based on Hanson Street, sponsored the climb and also kindly donated £700 to the chosen charities.
