Fundraising mission calling in to village

- By Jack Tolson

A FUNDRAISING tour of the country will stop off in Barnsley on Sunday.

Proceeds from the day – at Dodworth Miners Welfare

– will go towards the Motor Neurone Disease Walkathon Challenge organised by Lynn Pritchatt.

Lynn lost her long-time partner Mel Evans MBE to Motor Neurone Disease back in 2017.

She will cross 14 counties in 14 days as she looks to raise as much money and awareness for the disease which took Mel.

Rachel Dowle, who attends sessions at Barnsley’s crown green bowling club, said: “As a local bowling club we are honoured to be asked to take part in this prestigious and important event for an amazing charity and really want to showcase everything that is great about South Yorkshire.

“Although we don’t have the celebrity draw of Rob Burrows, Lynn Pritchatt – the inspiring lady behind the event – deserves a huge amount of kudos for organising this charity event.

“Throughout the afternoon we will also be running events and games for non-members to showcase our amazing sport, raise much-needed funding and awareness for MND, and we just want to let people have a try of a very misunderstood sport and hopefully raise our profile within the community.”
