Denby Dash

A record total of £2,108 was raised from the sixth ‘Denby Dash’ race over countryside hills and vales surrounding Upper Denby. Adult runners numbered 147 and juniors nearly 50. A number of villages volunteered to marshal the event in one form or another. On behalf of Denby Conservation Society, Anne Middleton thanked all sponsors, including Yummy Yorkshire who provided ice cream for the junior race and all the volunteers, especially the organising abilities of Dean Wyatt from the George pub. Anne said: “We received many compliments regarding the organisation of the gruelling but wonderful course.”

Conservation Group

The next meeting of the group will be on Saturday October 8 from 11am at The George Inn when a report will be given on the annual ‘Denby Dash.’

Cricket Club

The final day of the season is tomorrow when the team will entertain Emley followed by well earned drinks with live music from Mason Whittle. A family fun day was held on the cricket field last Saturday with coconut shy, a tombola, cake stall, bbq and giant inflatables. A plus event was the most eagerly awaited game of the year, the under 9s team giving the adults a run for their money.

Club House

The community is reminded that the cricket club house and facilities are free to all members. This year the improved premises have been used for a funeral wake, three birthday parties and an 18th birthday. The facilities belong to the community and are available to everyone.
