PICK that one out of the onion bag!

Gary Smith’s whopping onion, weighing in at 9.9lb, won him the competition held at Holy Trinity Parish Hall last Saturday.

The competition was part of the Elsecar Chrysanthemum and Gardening Society’s annual gala.

Irene Hill, and the secretary of the society, Isobel Sharman, was thrilled with the amount of entries in this year’s show, saying: “Considering the weather this summer, thwarting growers, the number and quality of entries was excellent.”

They also wanted to announce another Chrysanthemum show, which will be taking place in November of this year.

Growers also showed off their flowers at the event.
