Clarkson stars as Harriers women win team prize at Wetherby Road Race

BARNSLEY Harrier Lisa Clarkson was second woman, out of 56, at the Wetherby 10k Road Race in a personal best of 42-17.

Barnsley AC’s Scott Hinchcliffe won the race in 32-39. Lisa, together with Caroline Batty and Paula Mills, won the women’s team prize.

Lisa was also second woman and the first of 17 Barnsley Harriers at the 5.6mile Denby Dash Trail Race, with 700 feet of ascent and 19 styles.

At the final Spencer’s Dash of the summer, second claim Penistone runner Kai Sunman won with 19-30. The winner of the women’s race was Ruby Sykes who is also a second claim runner for Penistone.

James Mumford was fifth overall and first in the men’s over40 category with 21-50. He also won the overall series for that category, with Simon Pike third after finishing in 24-48.

Sarah Halstead was third over50 woman in 33-34, while Lorraine Mackie finished second in that category in the series.

Stuart Woodhead was second over65 man in 28-28 and Barbara Haigh second over60 woman in 36-35 – with both runner-up in the overall series.

James Mumford was series winner in the men’s over40 category. In the same category, Simon Pike was third.

Myfanwy Cross came third in the women’s over35 category.

Barnsley AC’s Gareth Cooke, Adam Lavelle and Stuart Wilson took the top three senior men’s places in the series, while Naomi Drakeford and Gemma Thickett were first and second women.

There were category wins for over45 man Dean Winter, over50 man Win: Penistone’s Malcolm Rose at the Southport 10k.

Keith Littlewood, over60 Man Dave Brooksbank, over35 woman Lydia Race and over40 woman Vicky Shaw.

Windy conditions put paid to a sub 40-minute time at the Southport 10k for Penistone’s Malcolm Rose.

But he still managed to claim first place in the men’s over65 category.

Penistone’s Keith Gordon won the over70 men’s category at the Caernarfon Half Marathon.

Three Barnsley Harriers ran the Longshaw Sheepdog Trial Fell Race at

Hathersage in the Peak District.

First back over the 5.3-mile course, which included 1,050 feet of climbing, was Shaun Clarkson in 72nd place out of 139.

Barnsley AC’s Laura Mills completed the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon in a time of 2-37-49.

The inaugural Sheffield Lakes and Cakes 10k took place on Sunday.

The race consisted of two laps around the main lakes at Rother Valley Country Park. Barnsley AC’s Michael Slack took second place with 36-25 while Dave Allemby was second over60 man in 50-06.

At the Barnsley ParkRun, Harrier Katie Roberts was second woman and first over40 woman.

Jerry Fisher was third over55.

Barnsley AC’s under 13 Maya Schofield ran a PB at Torbay Velopark ParkRun, finishing ninth with 19-26.
