Life expectancy is ‘significantly lower’
LIFE expectancy for both men and women in Barnsley is ‘significantly lower’ than the national average.
Barnsley men have an average expectancy of 75.9 years and women 80.9 years – both about two years lower than the national average.
This issue is mostly down to lifestyle factors and poverty levels in the area, in comparison with other areas in the country, a cabinet report – which was discussed on Wednesday – revealed.
Coun Caroline Makinson, spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “The Office for National Statistics says the life expectancy has decreased for both genders.”
