Mother’s pride at Antonio’s role in Queen’s funeral

-

A PENISTONE man was a part of history on Monday as he took part in Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral procession.

Antonio Brullo, 17, comes from a military family and only graduated in August – but he played a part in the procession earlier this week.

Antonio’s mum, 53-year-old Janine, served in the RAF herself and travelled with her father around the world as he was also involved in the army.

She told the Chronicle: “He went to Harrogate AFC when he was 16 as a junior solider.

“He graduated there in August and went down to Lyneham.

“He got a call to be in the procession and took part in all of the night practices.

“Just to be stood there and watch the King and the Royals go past him, he said he couldn’t believe it.

“I’m absolutely buzzing for him.

“My dad served 26 years in the army and I’m ex-RAF myself.”

Janine had to keep her son’s involvement a secret, but she took to Facebook on Monday to share the news Antonio played a part.

“I just can’t believe the response,” she added.

“I posted it on Community Action Penistone and there was more than 700 acknowledgements.

“It was so overwhelming.”

PEOPLE gathered in Wath on Sunday for the national moment of reflection. A minute’s silence was held at All Saints’ Church as a mark of respect ahead of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Patrick Kenny of the Wath branch of the Royal British Legion lowered the standard and bowed.

A round of applause from more than 70 people followed and then the national anthem was sung.

People then gathered in the nearby Wath Hall for tea and coffee.
