A WOMAN who has just celebrated her 100th birthday says the secret to long life is simple – keep active.
Hilda Irvine originally from Denby Dale, celebrated the milestone last weekend at the Buckingham House care home in Penistone.
Hilda was a resident of
Ingbirchworth for 50 years where she lived with her late husband, David, a miner.
She was a dinner lady at several local schools for many years including Denby Dale, Scissett and Penistone Grammar School.
Known as a ‘bit of a character’ Hilda is still as bright as a button,
A party for residents – prepared by members of staff – took place at the home last Friday and a second one was held on Sunday for friends and family, including her two daughters, six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hilda said: “I owe my longevity to keeping active and mixing with a range of different people.”
