Bicycle club to visit Hub

The service last Sunday was led by Rev Eileen Sanderson. Bible readings were given by John Pearson and Ann Brown. The organist was Rosemary Denman. The 27th Guides meet on Tuesdays from 5.45-7.15pm and yoga takes place from 7-8pm. Hartbeeps meet on Wednesdays from 10am-3.30pm. There is One Stop shop from 9.4511am

A BICYCLE club formed more than half a century ago will be coming to Tankersley next month.

Bygone Bykes Yorkshire, founded by the Auty brothers from Wakefield, aim to preserve, renovate and display bikes whilst also renovating them.

Members of the club have an interest

There is a speed quiz every Friday from 8pm. Last week’s winners for the Queen Quiz were Julie, Steve, Pete and Gloria who scored 16/30. Sunday live at five is 80s’ duo Sound and Vision. The Sun lost 6-1 to Carlton Club in the Smithies League.

Club

Bingo is played every Thursday from 8.30pm. Entertainm­ent this weekend is Ikon on stage from 8.45pm and The Fonics on stage on Sunday from 3.45pm. in modern and classic machines as well as the earlier vintage and veteran models.

The brothers will be holding a sale of vintage cycles and accessorie­s in Tankersley Hub on Sunday October 9.

Doors will be open from 9am.

A coffee morning with bacon sandwiches and cakes in aid of Leo’s Mission to raise funds and awareness for the disease XLH will be held tomorrow from 10am in the Community Hub in Wombwell cemetery.

Agewell

Members of Wombwell Agewell group and friends enjoyed an outing to the James Herriot museum at Thirsk last Wednesday. Next Wednesday the group meets back in the Parish Hall of St Michael’s and All Angels R Church at 1.30pm and guest speaker is Roy Sagar on the topic ‘Name That Tune’ and new members are more than welcome.

Parish Church

On Sunday the 10am service of morning prayer at St Mary’s will be led by Anne Eastwood. Community cafe with pastries and cakes will be held on Monday from 9.30-11.30am with a short reflection at the end for those who wish to stay. The Little Wrigglers group is held on Monday from 9.30-11.30am and in the afternoon from 3-4.30pm, the JAM club for primary school children. The youth club ‘Dare 2 Be’ is on Tuesday from 6-8.30pm. On Thursday the 9.30am service of Holy Communion will be led by Rev John Armstrong and the preacher is Anne Eastwood.

Luncheon Club

meet Spiderman, T Rex and Bear. In the afternoon from 1.30pm there will be live music strictly for over 18s. Artists are Rob Johnson from 2-3pm, Alexandra Crellin from 3-4.30pm, Bad Addiction from 5-7pm and Carl Briggs as Robbie Williams from 7.45pm until late.

Wombwell WMC

Karaoke Stars on Stage competitio­n with the winner receiving £250 will be held on Thursdays with heats starting on Thursday October 13 from 6-10pm and the final will be held on December 15.

Summer Lane Methodist Church

On Sunday the 10.30am service will be taken by Rev Mick Neal. Following the service, tea and coffee will be available. The rainbows meet on Wednesday at 4pm followed at 5.30pm by the

25th brownies. On Thursday the 18th brownies will meet at 5.30pm followed by guides at 6.30pm. There will be a coffee morning held on Saturday October 1 from 10am.

Halloween

A Halloween Kids’ Fancy Dress Party will be held at Wombwell WMC on Sunday October 30 from 1-4pm. Entry is £2. You can bring your carved pumpkin for a special prize.

Slimming World

Jonny Martell will be entertaini­ng tonight and tomorrow ‘Fabs’ will be entertaini­ng. On Tuesday, the quiz winner was Tony and the card was won by Peter Makinson. Don won the head-to-head and Tony won play your cards right. The stand-up bingo winner was Georgina. Wednesday night’s bingo winners were Shirley, Gillian, Jayne and Graham. The community breakfast club held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8-9am in Cortonwood Comeback Community Centre has been closed for two weeks due to staff shortages and will reopen on Tuesday October 4.

Christ Church

All Age Family service will be held on Sunday at 10am. A service of Holy Communion will be held on Tuesday at 10am. The church will be open on Wednesday from 10am until noon for private prayer.
