St Paul’s

The mass last Sunday was celebrated by Fr Michael Johnson, assisted on the Altar by Lynda Brown and Debbie Griffin. Organist was Robert Rowland. Readings were given by Lynda Brown and Mary Bullock. The Psalm was sung by the Choir and Fr Michael read the Gospel, gave the sermon and led the prayers. On Sunday, mass will be at 10am. This year’s Harvest Festival will be on October 2 at 10am and everyone is welcome, especially parents with children.

Chapel

The service last Sunday was led by Rev

Eileen Sanderson. Bible readings were given by John Pearson and Ann Brown.

The organist was Rosemary Denman. The 27th Guides meet on Tuesdays from 5.457.15pm and yoga takes place from 7-8pm. Hartbeeps meet on Wednesdays from 10am-3.30pm. There is One Stop shop from 9.45-11am on Thursdays. U3A Dancing takes place on Fridays from 7-9pm. Next Sunday the service at 10.30am will be led by Rev Claire Rawlinson and will include communion. Harvest Thanksgivi­ng will be held on Sunday October 2 when Mr Wayne Ashton will lead the service. The next friendship cafe will take place on Tuesday October 4 from 2-3.30pm.

Sun

There is a speed quiz every Friday from 8pm. Last week’s winners for the Queen Quiz were Julie, Steve, Pete and Gloria who scored 16/30. Sunday live at five is 80s duo Sound and Vision. The Sun lost 6-1 to Carlton Club in the Smithies League.

Club

Bingo is played every Thursday from 8.30pm. Entertainm­ent this weekend is Ikon on stage from 8.45pm and The Fonics on stage on Sunday from 3.45pm.

Morning prayer will take place today, tomorrow and Tuesday at 9am on Zoom. Tomorrow the monthly coffee morning will be held from 10am in the Church Hall and everyone is welcome. The Parish Eucharist will be held at 9am on Sunday and will be streamed on Zoom at 10.30am.

On Tuesday at 1.30pm there will be a Study

Group discussing the subject of prayer which will be streamed on Zoom on Thursday at 7.30pm for those who can’t attend and in the evening on Tuesday, there will be an Office Half Hour for those enquiring about weddings, baptisms and funerals.

This will be held at Darton Church. On Wednesday, morning prayer will take place in church at 9am followed at 10.30am by a said Eucharist which will be streamed on Zoom and in the evening choir practice will be held from 7pm, everyone is welcome.

Theatre and events in St John’s

The next event held in the Parish Hall will be on Saturday October 1. The Red Ladder Theatre Company will be presenting ‘My Voice Was Heard But It Was Ignored’ which is an urgent interrogat­ion of racial identity by Nana-Kofi Kufuor.

Tickets are £6 and can be bought online. You can buy tickets from https://www.ticketsour­ce.co.uk/ stjohnssta­incrss/t-vvvamny. This show is suitable for anyone over the age of 15.

Worship for Sunday will be Holy Communion BCP at 8am and Parish Eucharist at 11am. Thursday morning Holy Communion will take place at 9.45am. Please note that your regular collectors will be calling to collect your church box throughout September.

This Sunday there will be no mass at the church. Instead, there will be a mass for both churches in the Benefice of Hoyland. This will take place at St Andrew’s at 10am and the visiting priest and preacher will be Fr Trevor Morley. Anyone is welcome to join us.
