TOMORROW’S Premier Division Wombwell derby is being hailed as old versus new as Wombwell Town travel up the road to Wombwell Main.

The rivals are respectful of one another.

Town boss Karl Rose said: “We are the new kids on the block but we are looking to do things the right way. “Main are the blueprint really.

“We have a slightly different model to them but they have been established a long time.

“They have been in the top five in this league for years and they are very experienced at this level.”

Main boss Terry Simon said: “I have been involved with Main for a long time and I can’t ever remember a league meeting between us.

“They have had a great start and a couple of lads will know one another. Eddie Agnew plays for our Sunday side – so that will be interesting.

“It should be a good game.”

Town warmed up for the derby with a 6-1 win against Ecclesfield Red Rose on Saturday.

They raced into a 5-0 lead by the break which Rose said allowed them to play more experimentally in the second half. Agnew netted a hat-trick, Will Harling a brace and there was one from Brodie Cooper.

They currently sit top with two wins from two.

“It was a confident win and we dominated from the start,” added Rose.

“Being five-nil up at the break gave us a chance to relax in the second half but we were fuming to concede a late goal. It’s been a great start to the season.”

Ten man Main went down 3-2 against Hepworth United.

Ryan Wingrove netted twice but goalkeeper Dale Crossland saw red.

Simon added: “We were two goals up and cruising. I honestly don’t know how we lost that game.

“A few of our lads have got to learn how to manage games better.”
