SCHOOLS’ FOOTBALL

ROUND-UP AS CRICKET SEASON ENDS

-

BARNSLEY schoolboys returned to action this week and had mixed results.

Last Saturday, the under 14s beat Doncaster 5-0.

The under 12 side went down in a thrilling contest with Sheffield 4-3. Barnsley’s goals came from

Jack Twigg, Sonny Coles and an own goal.

NICK Latimer proved to be the king of the climbers at Birdwell Wheelers’ annual open hill climb event in Green Moor on Sunday.

The climb, up the notorious Well Hill, averages eight per cent but is 12 per cent in places.

Nick Latimer from Team Lifting Gear was the quickest to the top and also the fastest veteran with 2.26.2.

It is the second time Latimer has won the trophy after a triumph in 2010 at Curbar.

Tom Parsons of Team Jewson ran him close and was just 1.7 seconds behind.

Iain Duffield from PMRR was third with 2.39.4.

Maia Howell, 13, from Matlock CC set a new juvenile record in winning that crown with 3.43.3. A time of 4.16.6 was enough for Sonia Insley from Bolsover and District CC to win fastest woman veteran.

The fastest for the home club was Trevor Mayne in 3.29.4.

Sunday’s club ride meets at 9am at Brewers Fayre Wombwell. Visitors are welcome.

Check the club’s Facebook page for last minute changes.
