Solidarity rally is scheduled

-

A SOLIDARITY rally in support of strike action will be held in Barnsley next month.

Barnsley Trades Union Council will show its support for the strikes being organised by the three major unions – CWU who represent postal workers, RMT and ASLEF who represent rail workers.

The rally will be held in the town centre on Saturday, October 1.

George Arthur, secretary of BTUC, said: “Workers have seen real wages cut severely over the last decades.

“The extremely high inflation now is driving more workers to rely on foodbanks.

“I’m pleased that these unions are taking action to protect their members.

“It ties in with the Enough is Enough campaign that has already got 600,000 people signed up and has five major demands.

“In Barnsley we will rally outside the sorting office on Pitt Street at 10.30am and then march to the Glass Works for a further rally there.

“Our trades council will do all it can to help all unions fighting for decent conditions.

“It is high time that the wealth amassed by the rich is shared out to those who do the work.”
