Pair take part in historic ceremony

BARNSLEY Hospital managers Lisa

Corbridge and Mike Lees travelled to the capital on Sunday to take part in an historic annual sheep drive across London Bridge.

As members of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals, both are Freemen of London and have rights that go back to medieval times.

One of these rights allow Freemen to take their sheep across London Bridge without paying a toll which in times past was a privilege.

London Bridge was partially closed for the day to allow the drive to take place safely and the sheep were regularly rotated to ensure none were stressed.

Lisa and Mike were sponsored by suppliers of security services with donations worth hundreds of pounds going to Barnsley Hospital Charity.

Lisa said: “The whole day was a fantastic experience and although a charity event it is underpinned by pure history and ancient rights going back to the time of Dick Whittington.

“You have to be a Freeman to participate and this has given us the chance to raise funds.”
