Trio’s long time in the saddle raises £1,700 for chemotherapy ward

-

THREE Barnsley men who cycled to Cleethorpes from Barnsley Town Hall have raised more than £1,700 for charity.

Mark Spendlove and his two friends, Stuart Kaye, and Billy Deakin, took on the challenge to cycle to the seaside town to fundraise for a cause close to all their hearts, and in memory of their parents.

The money raised was donated to the chemotherapy ward at Barnsley Hospital.

The three friends completed their cycling challenge in August, and have recently added up their donations, which has come to a total of £1,769.

The money will go towards providing the best quality of care and support on the hospital ward, and to help the hospital buy the vital equipment and medication needed to save lives of those diagnosed with cancer.

Mark said: “We did the bike ride in honour of our parents – some who have sadly passed away, and some who are still fighting the hard battle. We wanted to raise as much money as we could for the chemotherapy ward at Barnsley Hospital to hopefully enhance the care and treatment cancer patients receive.”

The three friends have wanted to raise the money in a fun way by doing something they all love.

Mark added: “We wanted to create a fun challenge that would test us, and show our dedication to the cause.

“Myself, Stuart and Billy all like to do bike rides, and thought this would be a good challenge to set for ourselves.

“The journey we took was from the town hall to Cleethorpes – a total of 82.6 miles.”
