Ladies

At the meeting of Billingley Ladies group held on Monday in the Village Hall, Lynn Bembridge welcomed guest speaker Corey Parfitt. Corey gave a very interestin­g talk entitled ‘The Paisley Snail’ about a civil court case of the early 1900s. A vote of thanks was given by Lynn Bembridge. Raffle winners were Jan Atkinson, Lynn Bembridge, Janette Allott, Margaret Barnes and Sylvia Martin. Arrangemen­ts are in hand for members to enjoy a Christmas meal at the Old Moor Tavern on December 5 and booking is essential. The next meeting will be held on Monday, October 24 at 7.30pm and guest speaker is Michael Fowler who is a retired police officer and now writes crime novels.

Village Hall

The Knit and Natter group meets every Tuesday at 2pm in the Village Hall and on Thursdays coffee morning is held from 10.30am. All welcome.

A coffee morning will be held tomorrow in church from 10am until noon, everyone welcome. On Sunday the Harvest Holy Communion service is at 10am. At the 9am group session held on Thursday, slimmer of the week was Bev Jones losing 3lbs and Jodie Oakley who lost 4.5lbs at the 10.30am group session. A half stone award was presented to Mel Davies, a stone award to Pauline Longden, two and a half stone award to Sheree Douglas and a four and half stone award to Jodie Oakley. Friends of Brampton Graveyard

On Wednesday there will be free premier league football sessions at Thurnscoe Sports Ground 5-6pm for eight-16 year olds.

Councillor Surgery

The next surgery will be held on Friday, October 14 from 11am-midday for anyone who needs support, advice and guidance from a local councillor. No appointmen­t is needed.

Readers Group

Gateway meets on Sunday at Mottram Hall on Mottram Street. There is an 11am Romanian worship meeting organised by Pastor Alex Botos and this will be followed by a 4pm English worship meeting with Alex and Pastor Mark Reasbeck. Buckley Methodist Church

Tomorrow there will be a coffee morning from 10am. Toast will be served and there will be a raffle. On Sunday at 10.30am, the service will be led by Pat Paddon. The ladies group will meet at 1.30pm on Monday. On Saturday October 8, coffee morning will be at 10am and this will be followed by a worship service at 11.15am. This will be led by Rev Ben Scrivens and will include communion. Everyone is welcome to come along and join us.

Holy Rood

Tomorrow’s mass will be held at 10.30am followed by Exposition and the Sacrament of Reconcilia­tion. On Sunday mass will be held at 9.30am and 11am. The parent and toddler group will meet on Tuesday from 10-11.30am in the church hall. £3 per child and an additional 50p charge for siblings. Refreshmen­ts will be available. St Edward’s Church, Kingstone

On Sunday there is a Service of the Word at the church at 10.30am. On Tuesday, the coffee club meets from 10am-midday.

Barnsley Baptist Church

On Saturday we will begin our Harvest weekend with a pie and pea supper from 6.30pm followed by an evening’s entertainm­ent by singer, John Froud, of the Zephaniah Trust. Join us as we celebrate at our Harvest Thanksgivi­ng service on Sunday at 11am. Rhonda Keay and Lynne Timm will lead worship. We shall be supporting the work of Operation Agri, particular­ly the work in Mozambique. Refreshmen­ts will be served in The Stock Hall after the service. On our Facebook page you can join us for prayer at ‘Coffee Call’ on Tuesdays at 11am and on Wednesday a new series of Bible Studies will begin at 7pm on the Facebook page.
