Charlie treble as schoolboys continue good season start Barnsley AC’s Scott first out of 2,300 at Sheffield 10k race

A CHARLIE Dickinson hat-trick helped Barnsley under 14s continue their strong start to the new season with a 3-1 win over Hull.

The Barnsley side came back from 1-0 down.

Barnsley under 13s drew 1-1 at

Liverpool, who scored a disputed late penalty.

Barnsley under 11s put in a strong performanc­e in the Yorkshire Tournament before losing to Sheffield 3-1 in the semifinal.

Barnsley under 12s lost 7-1 at Knowsley St Helens. The visitors hit the post several times.

BARNSLEY AC’s Scott Hinchcliff­e won the Sheffield 10k in 31-48.

More than 2,300 runners took part. Michael Slack finished 17th in a PB of 35-26.

Six Penistone Footpath Runners competed. First woman back for the club was Rhianna Banford who finished in a personal best time of 45-22. Second woman back and also achieving a personal best was Chloe Worth in 45-33. Lee Nash was first Penistone man back in 36-46, followed by Will Hoyland (38-16), Michael Walsh (43-02) and Dave Napier (44-04).

Penistone’s Andrew Pearson, Dawn Broom and Malcom Rose competed for England masters at the Bristol 10k.

Andrew completed the race in 37-21 which earned him ninth place in the men’s over55 age category.

In the women’s over55 category, Dawn was 12th in a time of 44-18.

Malcolm was fifth in the men’s over65 category with 40-10.

Barnsley AC’s Gareth Cooke and Joy Benson were present for Eliud Kipchoge’s world record-breaking performanc­e at the Berlin Marathon.

Running the 26.2 mile route, with a finish at the Brandenbur­g Gate, Gareth finished in 2-33-33 and Joy in 5-37-17.

Barnsley AC’s Paul Fieldsend was fifth in 2-41-02 at the Autumn Sir Titus Trot 20-mile race along the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool Canal, starting in Saltaire.

Barnsley AC’s Mark Wood and Vicky Shaw ran the five-mile Knaresboro­ugh Crag Rat Run. Mark finished 25th in 33-14 (22 seconds better than last year) while Vicky was 38th and third woman in 34-22 (1-54 quicker).

The Northern Road Relays took place at SportCity in Manchester. More than

100 teams from clubs across the North of England ran six stages of around 6k.

Barnsley AC’s men’s team finished in of 2-44-16 with only one member of the sixman team being under 50 years old.

The team comprised Keith Littlewood (24-40), Robert Elstone (26-50), Chris McNicholas (27-57), Lee Spensley (28-43), Tony Richards-Vardy (32-10) and Stuart Wilson (23-56).

After the final race in the Oxspring Trunce series, Barnsley Harrier Caroline Batty finished third woman veteran overall.

At the Humber Bridge Half Marathon,

Barnsley Harrier John Moss finished 496th out of 632 finishers in 2-16-30.

There was a strong turnout of runners from Penistone at the Shelf Moor Fell Race which takes place from Glossop and covers 1,400 feet of climbing over six miles. George Parr finished ninth in 48-59. First woman back for the club was Suzanne McGill in 1-10-56.

Penistone held their first winter handicap event. Michael Walsh was the handicap winner. Fastest male was James Mumford in 28-08 and fastest woman was Julia Johnson in 33-52.

For the third week in a row, Barnsley Harrier Mike Schofield recorded another PB at the Barnsley ParkRun.

Schofield finished as first over50 man, Katie Roberts first woman, Hayley Johnson first over35 woman, Clare Atkinson second over45 woman and John Hewitt first over75 man.

There were also new PBs for Clare Atkinson and Derek Woolley.

Penistone’s James Fryers claimed first spot at the Leazes ParkRun and Flynn Rogers was first at the Hillsborou­gh Junior ParkRun.

Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville broke the over55 women’s record at Poolsbrook ParkRun with 20-36.
