Dempsey thrilled to top Metrodome bill

- By Ashley Ball

DEMPSEY Wale believes his next opponent will be another measure of how far he is progressing.

The Brampton light-welterweight, 26, is in with Pole Jakub Laskowski at the Metrodome this evening.

Laskowski has won four, lost 18 and drawn once since turning pro in 2019.

He took Campbell Hatton, son of former world champion Ricky, to a points decision last summer.

Wale, who is trained by his dad, Mick, and managed and promoted by his brother, the former British champion Josh, is making sound progress in the paid ranks.

He only had two amateur contests but is taking to the pro game well and is currently six unbeaten.

This contest will be his second over six rounds and his second as the main event.

Wale said: “We first saw him when he was in with Campbell but I think he has got better since then.

“With him being a foreign boxer, he’s a different kind of journeyman and he comes and has a go.

“But I should be beating these kinds of kids if I want to be boxing for titles.

“My career is flying by so far and I am already the most experienced professional on the show.

“Being top-of-the-bill is an honour and unusual for someone with my experience. I have been gifted it a little bit, but I don’t take it for granted.

“I am very self-critical but I can sense that I am progressing.

“Spars are becoming easier and I think progression comes with understanding of the sport and how tough it is.

“I know there is a pressure on me, but I thrive off that.”

Grimethorpe super-welterweight Danny Hall also returns to action tonight.

The 24-year-old brickie is set to face MJ Hall over four rounds.

MJ Hall is a journeyman from the West Midlands who has lost 86 of 90 professional fights.

Hall has made an impressive start to his professional career so far and picked up wins against Richard Helm and Martin Shaw on points.

Rotherham’s Redwan Nishat and Paul Clewes, from Doncaster, make up the home contingent on the card.

Both are signed with the Bramptonbased promoter.

Meanwhile, Brampton teenager Jamyleigh Pettinger got the victory to progress in the Yorkshire Junior Development Championships on Sunday.

Representing the Wale family club, Micky’s Athletic, Pettinger won her contest in Bridlington and will feature in the next round later in October.
